Position Summary:We are looking for a well-rounded professional who thrives on a dynamic and challenging operations environment. The Network Management Center is seeking a Developer, Operational Support Systems to contribute to the ongoing development of the NMC’s toolset.
This position works on maintaining and improving our existing OSS toolset while working with NMC management and other OSS personnel to develop new in-house or integrate 3rd party monitoring applications to help streamline NMC operations.
Responsibilities: • Contribute to any or all development lifecycle phases including design, coding, implementation, testing, optimization, and ongoing maintenance; • Support of the AboveNet NMC Operational Support Systems platform; • Integrate and deploy AboveNet-developed and 3rd party solutions; • Act as technical point of contact for NMC OSS solution set; • Troubleshoot various issues as escalated; • The individual must comply with departmental and corporate internal controls and all internal controls processes; • The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity; • Other duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements: • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent knowledge and time-in-field required; • Prefer minimum of two (2) years software development experience in at least two of C, C++, PHP, Perl, or UNIX Shell Scripting; • Experience with Windows and UNIX or UNIX-like operating systems (ie, Solaris, FreeBSD or Red Hat Linux); • Experience with source and change control methodology; • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills in English; • Prefer experience in developing or administering Telecom Operational Support Systems; • UNIX system administration experience (Solaris, FreeBSD, RHEL primarily) a plus; • Prefer knowledge of Network Operations Center environment; • Be generally available to assist during off hour events; • Not a supervisory role; • High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently as well as part of a team; • This position may require working different shifts, weekends and holidays by rotation; • Occasional travel may be necessary.
